100-SH72334 Messerschmitt Me 163A 1/72
Overview
Messerschmitt Me 163A Komet was the world’s first rocket-powered aircraft produced in larger numbers. Early production machines were primarily used for testing and for training pilots who later flew the operational fighter version known as the Me 163B.
On October 2, 1941, German test pilot Heini Dittmar, flying the prototype Me 163A V1, became the first person in history to exceed a speed of 1000 km/h, reaching 1003.67 km/h. The rocket-powered Komet took off using a two-wheel jettisonable take-off dolly and landed on a retractable skid located under the fuselage.
